Military re-enactment by the Munster
Military Vehicle and Re-enactment Group
- This year's event will take place on the
June Bank Holiday week-end.
- It will be open to the public on Saturday
4th and Sunday 5th of June.
- Re-enactors from the middle ages through to
the present times will be present.
- Military vehicles from a number of different
armies and era's will also be represented.
- The show will open to the public from 11
a.m. to 6.oop.m. on Saturday and Sunday with many different historical
re-enactments taking place.
- Medieval Archers will give an archery
display.
- Medieval food soldiers will also be present.
- Red Coats and United Irishmen of 1798 will
relive their period and will be one of the main events of the week-end, with
the outcome of the Rebellion hanging in the balance in more ways than one.
- The American War of Independence will also
be represented. American Civil War troops both Union and Confederate will be
on display and re-enact life during the American Civil War of the 1860's.
- WW1 troops will have a living history
display of what it was like during the 1914-18 Great War and will be on hand
to sign up anyone wishing to go on a dream trip to the trenches.
- Irish troops of the period 1935-41 will be
on hand to keep an eye out for any sign of invasion, which may present itself
in the form of troops from the 56th Division of the London Irish Rifles
1939-45.
- The WW2 German Army of Battle Group South
may try to land and control events, but the American 101st airborne who will
advance from the west and will be seen to put up a last ditch defence. In the
end as history tells Irish Neutrality will prevail and all illusions of
foreign invaders will fade away.
- A renegade re-enactment party from up the
country who have declared their independence will be present with their
military encampment and prize winning collection of cold war vehicles.
- Our own collection of armour and military
vehicles will be on display along with members of the Military Vehicle Club of
Ireland, who people may have seen on Nationwide on RTE.
- Numerous stalls and sideshows related to
military items and interest will also be present.
- A number of military veterans will be
attending and we would like to extend a warm welcome to all veterans who may
wish to attend and view the items and vehicles on display.
- On Sunday at approximately 2.00p.m. the
major ceremonies will take place in the presence of many prominent dignitaries
and historians.
- A parade on the square of re-enactors
through the ages will take place and they will be addressed by a number of
dignitaries and historians, followed by the main re-enactment of the day.
Duncannon Fort in its own right is well worth a
visit. Its Museum, Art Gallery and Café will be open to the public, so if you
feel like dropping in and going back in time through the ages of military
history, or just for a memorable day out with the family, a great day is
guaranteed.
