Birdwatching

Because it projects so far into the sea Hook Head is an excellent sea watching and passerine migration watch point. Gannets, auks and kittiwakes can be seen at all times of the year, with Shearwaters and Skuas more notable in Spring.

For passerine watching, early morning in Spring and autumn is best, especially after South-East winds. Swallows, Warblers, Flycatchers, Redstarts and whitethroaters can all be seen in Spring and autumn, with rarer species more likely in autumn.

It is one of the few places in the South East where Choughs (Red Billed Crows) can be seen regularly.

A birdwatching paradise, the area offers a wide variety of habitats supporting an unrivalled selection of resident and migrant birds. The Keeragh Islands is the breeding ground for a Cormorant colony of international importance.
